15

10 October 2018

The Fight for $15 which is a movement by fast food workers demanding that they receive a livable wage which they feel comes out to at least $15 per hour has produced an array of results one of which has truly surprised me.

Now I am not surprised by the bravery of the men and women fighting for fair wages by staging walkouts, strikes and protest all while risking their jobs.

I'm also not surprised by the resistance from many if not all of the Fast Food Industry Big Wigs to comply with their employees. They are going to will drag their feet for as long as possible with the hopes that the automated fast food restaurant will arrive sooner than later.

What I find surprising is the resistance and hatred against the workers, and their movement is coming from the masses.

In fact, most people are more staunch against the workers receiving a living wage than the actual people the workers are demanding to pay them more.

If you listen carefully none of the reasons provided by most people on why the workers should not receive higher wages are logical.

“They're an unskilled labor force comes up a lot usually by individuals that are far from being a skilled worker themselves.

“If they are paid what they asked for, prices will go up” is another counter-argument. That one is usually presented by someone who demands that jobs return to America even if it drives up the price of goods.

Of course, they are many more, “Who do they think are? “ “They should be happy that they have a job. “ Again not logical.

Maybe the antagonism is there because anything involving minorities, young people or women rubs alot of people the wrong way.

In a time where most of us or a robot or even scarier an app away from being obsolete at our job, one would think more people would be supportive in the Fight for 15.

Then again logic has left the building.
